prototype Defiant Class Battleship, the United Star Ship Defiant, Registration
Number NX-74205, was
originally
developed as a secretweapon by the Federation against the Borg threat of
the late 2360's. When
the
Borg threat became less urgent Starfleet decided to discontinue the program
as the ship was no longer
needed,
not to mention it was riddled with design flaws.
With
the threat posed by the Dominion and its Jem'Hadar troops, and by the onset
of conflict with the Klingons,
the
U.S.S. Defiant was brought to space station Deep Space Nine on
Stardate 48212.4, and was "officially"
clas-
sified
as an escort. She is armed with standard phasers,
as well as a new type of pulse-phasers, and quantum
torpedoes.
The U.S.S. Defiant is also equipped with a Cloaking Device from a Romulan
D'Deridex Class Warbird,
as
a result of an agreement with the Romulan Star Empire, and thus making
her the first Federation vessel to
"officially"
carry such a device. She has a maximum Impulse Velocity of 0.25c
(1/4 light speed), and
a maximum
sustainable
warp velocity of 9.6. Her hull ablative armor
matrix material is made of axially granulated polymer on
tritanium
foam.
When
the Defiant first came to the station, she was full of laws, where one
of them was the overpowering for the
ship
of her size - she hasenough generators to run a ship many times bigger
than herself. Also during her initial
test,
she nearly tore herself to pieces at full impulse speed. Chief
OPS Officer Miles O'Brien has had his hands
full
trying to fix all the flaws included in their new ship, and
it seem he has been successful. No major flaw has
turned
up for quite some time now.Unlike the comfort of most of the ships in Starfleet
whose primary purpose is
exploration
and discovery, the wasp-like U.S.S. Defiant was built for one purpose ...
